Conor Gallagher's wage at Tottenham compared to Chelsea sums up Spurs'problems right now

Tottenham decided in January that former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher was the answer to their ongoing problems in the Premier League, but they are paying an extortionate amount for his services.

Gallagher made a key mistake against Newcastle in one of his first games since making the controversial move to Chelsea’s arch-rivals in January.

Chelsea were open to offering Gallagher a new contract before he departed, however the fact he ended up joining Atletico Madrid suggested that these talks did not go as planned.

Should Chelsea be allowed to spend WHATEVER they want on transfers?

Conor Gallagher is earning four times more at Tottenham than he is at Chelsea

Earning big money is not something the England international has to worry about anymore though. As per The Guardian, he is earning £200k-a-week at his new club.

This has made him the highest-paid player at Spurs, and is believed to be a start of things to come should they avoid relegation.

Gallagher has been brought in to help significantly upgrade their levels following a woeful campaign so far. They sit just four points above the relegation zone.

Their form doesn’t show any signs of changing despite making the decision to sack Thomas Frank, replacing him with Igor Tudor.

As per Capology, Gallagher earned £50k-a-week in his final season as a Chelsea player, meaning he is on significantly more than he was making as a blue.

How Gallagher’s Tottenham wage stacks up with current Chelsea stars

If Gallagher was looking for that sort of money to stay at Stamford Bridge, it was clear that there was no chance he would be sticking around.

From the same Capology reports, Chelsea have only one first team player earning more than that – club captain Reece James.

This contract was agreed before the new owners came in, and their policy has been against offering big-money deals since after their first year in charge of the club.

Gallagher’s wage is the same as Wesley Fofana, and higher than the likes of Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
