Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Says He Has A Coaching 'Superpower'

Year 2 of the Aaron Glenn experiment for the New York Jets is going to look awfully different.

Glenn went 3-14 in his first year with the Jets. His shortcomings led to a series of coaching staff changes this offseason. A month ago, the Jets moved on from offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand and pass game coordinator Scott Turner. Their offense will be led by former Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich this fall.

As for the other side of the football, Brian Duker has been named the defensive coordinator for the Jets. However, play-calling duties on defense will belong to Glenn.

Apparently, Jets fans shouldn't be worried about Glenn taking over as the team's defensive play-caller. He told reporters Tuesday that calling plays is his "superpower."

To be fair, Glenn had a successful stint as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. Offenses converted only 32.4% of their third down attempts against Glenn's defense during the 2024 season. Additionally, his unit was ranked No. 1 in rushing yards allowed from 2023-2024.

On the hot seat for 2026?

Despite being the head coach of the Jets for only 17 games, Glenn is already feeling the pressure.

According to reports, Glenn wanted to hire Wink Martindale as his defensive play-caller. That hire was apparently squashed by Jets owner Woody Johnson.

"Sources Have Told Me: Woody Johnson was the one who squashed the Wink Martendale deal w/ the Jets," WFAN's Shaun Morash said. "Glenn told Wink the job was his, but Woody would not sign off telling Glenn he pays him enough as a defensive mind that he needs to be calling plays."

If Glenn's ideas are getting shut down by ownership just one year on the job, that's a bad sign for his future in New York.
