Arsenal and Man City will be running scared of Man Utd’s form under Michael Carrick, says MUTV pundit

Manchester United moved clear into fourth place after the win at Everton. How high can we go?

After winning 1-0 away at Everton, Manchester United moved three points clear of Liverpool and Chelsea. We are just three points behind Aston Villa, who are yet to visit Old Trafford.

Rather than look behind us at the teams we are ahead of, it is better to leave that to the other sides. Let them worry about Manchester United’s form – now unbeaten in the past 10 Premier League games.

Former United star Ben Thornley warns that title-contending Arsenal and Manchester City should be worried.

Watch out for Manchester United

Does chasing down Aston Villa need to be the height of Manchester United’s ambitions? There is only a further five point gap to Manchester City. Arsenal were two ahead, before playing an extra game.

Last month Manchester United beat City 2-0 and won 3-2 away at Arsenal, kicking off the Michael Carrick era in style. We do not have to play either team again this season, while City face Arsenal in April.

Speaking to MUTV, pundit Ben Thornley believes that the league’s top two teams will be concerned about United putting extra pressure on.

Thornley told Matchday Review: “Arsenal and City are up there, who have still got difficult games to go, and they know they can no longer affect what Manchester United do.

“They will be looking to other teams thinking ‘hang on a minute, is anyone gonna beat this team?’

“As long as we keep winning, them two will be looking over their shoulders.”

He added: “We will be in with a massive shout of finishing not just where we are now, but further up.”

Fellow pundit Wes Brown reflected on how well United have done to get to this position, where we are in the driving seat for the Champions League qualifying places.

Wes Brown: “It’s been hard work to get there, three points off Villa, three ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool, a few weeks ago it wasn’t looking like that.”

In all likelihood, United dropped too many points under Ruben Amorim to mount a serious title charge. But the longer this unbeaten streak continues, the more pressure we put on the teams above us, and the greater chance one of them cracks.
