Reggie Miller Eases Celtics Fans' Concerns About Jayson Tatum Return

For Boston Celtics fans worried about Jayson Tatum disrupting team chemistry if and when he comes back, maybe you shouldn't be.

Just listen to NBA broadcaster and Hall of Famer Reggie Miller diagnose the situation, as he did recently on The Dan Patrick Show.

“I think it'll be a seamless transition because he's been over there all season long, and he doesn't want to disrupt anything,” Miller said.

“I would much rather have an All-NBA guy play 20 minutes than not at all,” Miller continued. “So if he does come back and this is his decision only, I think it's only going to help Boston.”

Tatum tore his right Achilles on May 12, 2025, during Game 4 of the Celtics’ second-round playoff series against the New York Knicks.

Tatum has followed a structured rehabilitation program. Early this February, he joined portions of practice with the Maine Celtics, Boston’s G League affiliate. He then advanced to five-on-five workouts with Celtics coaches and teammates, describing the sessions as limited but aligned with the recovery plan.

In recent comments, Tatum said he takes things day by day, feels improvements daily, and has no set return date. He has not decided whether to play in the remainder of the 2025-26 season, stressing that he will only return when fully ready.

Medical professionals have noted the unpredictable aspects of Achilles repairs, with the main goal being restoration to pre-injury performance levels.

The Celtics have remained competitive in the Eastern Conference without Tatum, and fans continue to monitor each step of his progress.
