Seahawks Get New Message from Kenneth Walker Ahead of Free Agency

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker during a press conference.

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III delivered a pretty clear message in a recent YouTube Q&A, and the timing matters with NFL free agency opening at 4 p.m. ET on March 11, when the 2026 league year begins.

Walker, who earned Super Bowl LX MVP honors during Seattle’s title run, didn’t call anyone out by name. But he did something players rarely do publicly: he talked plainly about not controlling his reps and being “taken out” early in the season, right as his future with the franchise is about to become a major offseason storyline.

Seahawks News: Kenneth Walker Sends Seahawks New Message Ahead of Free Agency

In the video, Walker described the start of his season as “ass” and said it led to “late night talks” with his dad, then pivoted to what he learned from the situation.

“You can’t control how many times you get taken out or how many reps you get… I can’t control that,” Walker said. “I can just control… what I do with my opportunities.”

That’s not a trade demand. It’s not a direct shot at the coaching staff. But itis a pointed reminder that Walker views himself as a difference-maker, and that his workload hasn’t always reflected that.

NFL Free Agency: Why the timing matters

The timing of Walker’s message is important. The 25-year-old Super Bowl MVP is heading toward free agency, and Seattle has real decisions to make fast.

The NFL’s negotiating window opens March 9, with free agency officially opening March 11. If Walker reaches the market, he won’t be short on interest, and atleast one projection recently put his value in the $8-12 million per year range.

Walker is coming off a season that saw him carry the ball 221 times for 1,027 yards and five touchdowns. He has career totals of 821 carries for 3,555 yards and 29 touchdowns.

In other words: this isn’t just a “player talking about mindset” clip. It’s a player describing a season where he felt he couldn’t control his usage and still fully capitalized and helped deliver Seattle its second Super Bowl, right before he might get to choose his next team.

Seattle’s RB situation just got more complicated

There’s another “why today?” layer: Zach Charbonnet underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL and is expected to miss a significant portion of the 2026 season, per Reuters.

That matters because it changes Seattle’s math. The Seahawks can talk about committees all they want, but if Charbonnet isn’t fully available early next season, Walker becomes even more central, either as the lead backor as the star they have to replace.

What happens next for Walker and the Seahawks

Over the next two weeks, Seattle’s path is basically:

Get an extension done before the market opens

Let him test free agency and see if the numbers get uncomfortable

Explore tag options (though multiple reports and analysis pieces have suggested that may be unlikely)

Walker’s YouTube message doesn’t guarantee anything, but it does position him well for the conversation that’s coming. He’s not begging for touches. He’s saying he stayed ready, produced when it mattered, and he knows what kind of player he is.

And with March 11 getting closer, the Seahawks have to decide if they’re paying for that player, or preparing for life after him.
