When the Minnesota Vikings season ended it seemed as though they’d retain many of their key decision makers. Then the Wilfs thought more about how bad a 9-8 season looked after spending a boatload of money.
Ownership decided that Kevin O’Connell remains at least a level removed from culpability at this point. After further discussions, and weighing the ire of Brian Flores, they showed general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah the door.
Adofo-Mensah came into the position without a traditional football background. It was an interesting hire at the time, and he seems to have found a fit back in the vein of his previous positions.
Minnesota Vikings canned GM lands in San Francisco
It has been just 24 days since the Minnesota Vikings opted to terminate the contract of Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. Less than a year after drawing out his extension, he was unemployed. Now the San Francisco 49ers are bringing him into the fold.
#49ers GM John Lynch says former Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is back in the fold in the personnel department.
He’s already around and will get finality in terms of title, etc., after draft.

Although the Minnesota Vikings are operating under the organizational leadership of Rob Brzezinski, they won’t name a new general manager until after the NFL Draft. Meanwhile, Adofo-Mensah may not have a confirmed title, but he is quickly earning a new paycheck.
It was the 49ers who first employed Adofo-Mensah after his deviation from Wall Street. He was initially the manager of football research and development prior to earning a director title. Employed by San Francisco from 2013 through 2019, he left to assume the role of vice president of football operations for the Cleveland Browns.
Adofo-Mensah lasted four years with the Minnesota Vikings, but the results were questionable at best. He had an awful draft history, and although the free agency hits piled up, they were expensive and aging.
This season the 49ers are on the Vikings schedule, and they’ll host Minnesota. Adofo-Mensah won’t be playing between the lies, but you can bet he’d like to best the organization that sent him packing.
While Adofo-Mensah failed miserably when looking to find Minnesota’s quarterback of the future, he can observe how John Lynch did so in seventh round pick Brock Purdy.
