Dante' Carter reportedly promoted to fill Domata Peko's role as top defensive tackles coach in…

After Domata Peko left Colorado's staff to become the defensive line coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this winter, Dante' Carter stepped into the role in an interim fashion.

Apparently he did the job well.

Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders has promoted Carter to become the Buffs' defensive tackles coach going forward, as reported by the Boulder Daily Camera's Brian Howell. Carter served as Peko's understudy in 2025.

Before joining Colorado's staff, Carter served as a defensive line coach at Texas College, which won eight games in the NAIA ranks in 2024.

As a player, after graduating from New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine, Carter was a defensive tackle at Southern Louisiana and Prairie View A&M in college.

During spring practices, which are set to begin this coming week in Boulder, Carter will coach a defensive tackles group of seniors Santana Hopper, Ezra Christensen and Vili Taufatofua, juniors Dylan Manuel, Sedrick Smith and Samu Taumanupepe, sophomore Tyler Moore, and early enrollee Josiah Manu. Christensen's eligibility status for 2026 remains unresolved, however. Manu was initially brought in as an offensive line commit but was listed as a defensive tackle during Colorado's spring ball draft last week.
