Premier League Matchweek 27 Review: Arsenal Demolish Spurs, Man City Hold On

Premier League matchweek 27 didn’t have too many surprising results, apart from Burnley’s gutsy come-from-behind draw at Stamford Bridge and Fulham’s 3-1 win at Sunderland, who have a pretty good record at home.

Here are the talking points from the weekend:

### **Arsenal put four past Spurs, again**

Tottenham looked a strange outfit on Sunday; they appeared deep at times but never really had the structure of a good low-block, and their press never really worked because they were so disjointed.

There was a clip that went viral on social media showing Igor Tudor urging Micky van de Ven to step up, a call the Dutchman seemed to have blatantly ignored.

As a result, Arsenal didn’t have to be all that good. They got the time, they got the space, and finally decided to capitalize after briefly letting Spurs back in it.

### **Liverpool dig deep, Chelsea falter**

Liverpool played perhaps their worst 45 minutes of the season in the first half at Nottingham Forest, but still went into half time with the score tied 0-0.

Although Arne Slot’s side, without their key attacking lynchpin Florian Wirtz, never really created big openings, the Dutchman’s late decision to give young Rio Ngumoha finally added more pizzazz to the attack.

The young attacker finally added directness that the team was lacking. In the end, Liverpool stole all three points from an Alexis Mac Allister rebound.

Liverpool’s rivals for a place in the top four, Chelsea, meanwhile faltered at home to Burnley. Liam Rosenior’s side had enough openings, but simply couldn’t score the second and were undone towards the end. Wesley Fofana’s sending off didn’t help.

### **Manchester City hold on**

With Arsenal dropping so many points of late, it was important City won and kept the heat on the Gunners at the top. Pep Guardiola’s side haven’t been consistent all season, but they need to fix that.

With games running out, City need to stay within three points of Arsenal as the two still need to square off at the Etihad.

Guardiola had to watch his team defend nervously at times in the second half as the Sky Blues couldn’t add to their slender one-goal lead from the 22nd minute.

20-year-old Nico O’Reilly’s surprise brace will perhaps be the standout performance of the weekend as well.
