Pelinka will still lead the Lakers' basketball operations.
The Los Angeles Lakers are planning for Rob Pelinka to continue leading the team's basketball operations department, per President of Business Operations Lou Rosen (h/t Dan Woike of The Athletic).
Pelinka will have an added input from Andrew Friedman and Farhan Zaidi.
As such, Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported that while Magic Johnson will "surely" be around the franchise, there is no official title that would be given to the Lakers icon.
Pelinka has been with the Lakers since 2017. From maintaining the team's general manager role, he gradually emerged from the team's hierarchy and ultimately became LA's president of basketball operations last year.
Pelinka, who also reached a contract extension with the franchise last season, was instrumental in bringing LeBron James (2018), Anthony Davis (2019) and executing the Luka Doncic trade with the Dallas Mavericks for the Lakers.
In 2020, Los Angeles won its 17th title with Pelinka as the team's architect.
It was already revealed that under new majority owner Mark Walter, Pelinka and the Lakers are aiming to model their front office after the back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
Pelinka previously revealed that the Lakers are expanding their front office this offseason.
