Per Marc Stein, the Pistons are one of the key contending teams monitoring the former NBA star.
In his appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Marc Stein offered a significant update about the potential sweepstakes for Khris Middleton's service.
According to the NBA insider, several contending teams are monitoring Middleton, with the Detroit Pistons in the mix.
"I have to think there are a handful of contenders, playoff-bound teams — and the Pistons are probably among them — wondering if there’s any chance they could convince Khris Middleton to pursue a buyout," Stein reported.
"What I reported last night was that the Mavericks have essentially put the ball in Khris Middleton’s court. If he wants a buyout to join a playoff-bound team, Dallas will gladly cooperate and work with him."
The Mavericks have acquired Middleton in their blockbuster Anthony Davis deal with the Washington Wizards.
He appeared in five games thus far wearing a Dallas uniform, averaging 14.0 points in 49 percent shooting with 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists across 23 minutes.
He might not be an All-Star talent anymore, but Middleton remains a highly reliable and productive contributor. His shot-making, clutch tendencies and experience from the Milwaukee Bucks' 2021 title victory are definitely solid for any contending teams that could secure his play.
The three-time All-Star spent his first NBA season as a Piston before he was subsequently traded to Milwaukee in 2013. A potential reunion would be huge for Detroit, as they are currently holding the best record in the East (42-14) and aiming to win it all.
The deadline for buyout players to be waived and remain eligible for the 2026 NBA Playoffs would be on Sunday, and Middleton is certainly one of the key names to watch.
