Man United will strengthen again in the summer and it looks like they are targeting first XI ready players.

There is one position where Manchester United have paid the price for backing a manager so fixated on his system.

Ruben Amorim didn’t play with wingers which meant that he fell out with almost all of the ones he had available to him and left Old Trafford with Amad Diallo as the only, out and out, attacking wide man. Others like Patrick Dorgu, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo can do a job, but they aren’t a natural fit. How Michael Carrick would love to have Marcus Rashford at his disposal for the left-hand side if he gets the top job on a permanent basis.

Man United should hijack Liverpool’s Anthony Gordon swoop

If Barcelona find a way to stump up the cash, United could do a lot worse than Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon. According to TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook, prising him from St James’ Park could be difficult: “Newcastle have no plans to cash in on in-form Anthony Gordon,” claimed the media outlet’s senior football correspondent.

“Gordon’s excellent recent form of seven goals in his last 12 games has put clubs higher up the table on alert, while the England international came close to joining Liverpool two years ago.” Gordon wouldn’t be cheap but he is starting to show the sort of form that his overall play has always suggested that he could be capable of.

With 14 goals and five assists in 37 appearances for the Magpies, the 25-year old is a certainty to be on the plane to the World Cup across the Atlantic.

How much would it take to sign Gordon?

Jason Wilcox, according to TEAMtalk’s transfer journalist Graeme Bailey, is a huge fan of Gordon, but competition for his signature could be fierce: “Arsenal, Liverpool, and United remain long-term admirers, and the fact that Gordon harbours ambitions of playing at Anfield is no secret.

“However, sources close to the player and the club insist that prising Gordon away from St James’ Park will be no easy feat, with an ‘extraordinary’ offer required to lure him from Tyneside.”

As with when Gordon moved to Newcastle, whoever stumps up the cash first could well secure the England international’s signature, regardless of where he wants to play and who he wants to play for. With Man City signing players from under Liverpool’s nose, United now have the chance to do the same.
