Not Mac Allister or Konate: Ray Parlour names Liverpool player whose 'head's been turned'

Liverpool winger Mo Salah has been linked with a departure in the summer transfer window.

Ray Parlour revealed that he would not be surprised to see Mo Salah leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

The winger is one of the Reds’ greatest players in history. Joining from AS Roma in 2017, Salah has won eight major trophies for Liverpool, including the Champions League and two Premier Leagues, and is third on the club’s all-time top scorer charts.

Last season, he plundered 34 goals and 23 assists in all competition, playing a talismanic role as the Reds were crowned English champions. He also signed a new contract until the summer of 2027.

But this campaign, Salah’s form has dropped. He has managed only seven goals and eight assists in 28 outings. In last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, the Egypt international’s performance was lacklustre and he was substituted in the 77th minute. Seventeen-year-old Rio Ngumoha made a difference when he came off the bench to help secure a late triumph.

Salah has been heavily linked with a switch to Saudi Arabia ahead of the summer transfer window. And former Arsenal midfielder Parlour has suggested that the 33-year-old could be on the move.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Parlour said: “No-one at the end of the season if they get into the Champions League, which they should do, will look back at that game and think: 'We had a bit of luck there'.The young kid who came on was very lively. He was absolutely brilliant.

“When Salah came off, he had a smile on his face like: 'What are you doing?' That sort of look at Arne Slot...whether there is a bit of dysfunction and you could see him having a chat with [Cody] Gakpo on the bench. But the young boy who came on was very, very lively.

“I'm sure every Liverpool fan will say he's not been the same player since he signed his new contract. I know his head's been turned a bit with Saudi Arabia but you're playing for Liverpool Football Club.

“It wouldn't surprise me, not at all. Whether Liverpool look and it and think we're paying him a lot of money, can get him off the wage bill, bring in someone else give one of of the youngsters. It will be interesting what happens.”
