"Major" transfer claim has now emerged at Liverpool as FSG show their muscle

**Liverpool are now looking to bring in a “major” centre-back signing when the summer transfer window arrives, according to a fresh claim.**

The Reds continue to battle to save a disappointing season, with their Premier League title defence going out in a whimper earlier in the campaign.

While there is still hope in the Champions League and FA Cup, whatever happens, a host of new signings will be required this summer, with reinforcements needed throughout Arne Slot’s squad.

Centre-back needs added depth, even though Jeremy Jacquet is already coming in, while the form of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo has heightened the needed for fresh faces in attack.

According to a new report from [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-liverpool-to-follow-jeremy-jacquet-transfer-with-another-new-deal/), Liverpool and FSG are planning to add a “major” central defensive signing alongside Jacquet this summer, feeling the need to bring in two players in that role.

The update adds that “the Reds’ recruitment team feel that the squad has an imbalance at the centre of the backline, and they are hopeful of being able to adequately address that issue ahead of next season.”

**Is  centre-back Liverpool’s most important area of focus?**

-------------------------------------------------------------

While new wingers are vital for Liverpool in the summer, as mentioned, centre-back is a position that hasn’t been focused on nearly enough of late, and that is now a priority area ahead of next season.

Ibrahima Konate was the last senior addition there in 2021, with youngsters such as Giovanni Leoni also brought in, but at least one proven signing is required with the highly-rated Jacquet.

Virgil van Dijk turns 35 years of age this summer, and sadly, he won’t be able to go on forever at his peak, and there is no guarantee that Konate will decide to sign a new Liverpool deal.

Doubts also persist over Joe Gomez’s future and fitness, while Leoni is currently out with a serious knee injury and will need time to get back to his best.

It remains to be seen who the “major” centre-back is that Liverpool will sign, but it has to be someone at the right age who can be both an immediate and long-term success story.
