Chelsea’s hopes of landing Patrik Mercado have been dealt a significant blow, as the Ecuadorian sensation has snubbed interest from Stamford Bridge in favor of a summer move to Sevilla.
The Blues had very little luck in the January transfer window, as Jeremy Jacquet ultimately chose Liverpool after weeks of talks.
And Chelsea are reported to be eyeing moves for a defender, an attacker, and a midfielder in the summer, when it’s easier to complete deals.
Patrik Mercado is a name that has come up of late. It was claimed that Chelsea had joined the race for the midfielder ahead of the summer, but there was a long list of clubs (TeamTALK).
He’s an attacking midfielder who’s just 22 years of age. Scoring seven goals and assisting 11 last season makes it easy to see what all the fuss is about. And he’s a national teammate of Moises Caicedo.
However, he won’t be making his way to Chelsea.
Surely we can just put our trust in Andrey Santos?
Or are the club worried about Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo?

Fabrizio Romano confirms Patrik Mercado has joined Sevilla
Speaking on his official X account, Fabrizio Romano confirms an agreement between Mercado and Spanish club Sevilla over a summer transfer.
Patrik Mercado to Sevilla, here we go! Deal done for the Ecuadorian to join after the World Cup 2026.
Announcement expected in the next 24h, but all done, documents exchanged.
Given the fact that Kendry Paez also hails from Ecuador, it’s a shame that Chelsea or Caicedo weren’t able to convince him to make his way to England instead.
Should Chelsea be allowed to spend WHATEVER they want on transfers?

Chelsea are craving another attacking midfielder
Chelsea’s interest in Patrik Mercado, before the player’s summer move to Sevilla, underlines a realisation that the squad remains dangerously over-reliant on Cole Palmer.
While Liam Rosenior has found success with a high-intensity system, the drop in creativity that occurs whenever Palmer is rested or moved wide has cost the Blues vital points. Targeting a specialist like Mercado, who is a natural creator, would take the pressure off players like Palmer.
Even with Mercado heading to La Liga, the move itself proves that Chelsea are still craving a central playmaker who can unlock low blocks.
Until that central void is filled, Chelsea risk remaining a one-trick pony that, while brilliant, finds it harder than it should be to unlock low blocks.
