"A Very Complete And Powerful Striker" - Sergio Aguero Hails Arsenal Summer Signing

Man City’s all-time leading goalscorer Sergio Aguero has singled out Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres for praise.

The Swedish international bagged a brace in the North London derby at the weekend, taking his goal tally for the season to 15 in all competitions.

Aguero believes we are now seeing the very best of Gyokeres following a slow start to his career at the Emirates:

“[Gyokeres] had an initial period of adjustment, but in recent months, he has found his best form and rediscovered his scoring touch. He is a very complete and powerful striker.”

The Arsenal forward has been in excellent form in 2026

Gyokeres has found the back of the net 9 times since the turn of the year, having also provided 2 assists. That means he is averaging a goal contribution every 1.27 games from the start of January.

It is in stark contrast to his performances for the Gunners in 2025. The 27-year-old scored 7 goals and contributed 0 assists in 22 appearances between August and December, which meant he was only averaging 1 in every 3.14 appearances.

Has Gyokeres turned a corner?

It does take some players time to adapt to a new league, as Aguero points out, although some felt that after spending so much time in English football with Coventry City, that adjustment period would not be needed.

By the looks of things, though, it does seem as if he has found his groove. Only time will tell whether he can kick on and really be a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League, but he has certainly won over certain sceptics.

Along with Aguero, Michael Owen has also praised Gyokeres, labelling him “one of the very best finishers in the Premier League”, which is some compliment coming from a former Ballon d’Or winner.
