REPORT: Serie A Giants Have 'Set Its Sights' On Signing Liverpool First Team Regular

Juventus have “set its sights” on signing Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Gazzetta Dello Sport claim that CEO Damien Comolli has identified the Brazilian international as one of three options to replace current first choice Michele Di Gregorio.

Alisson has worked under current Juve boss Luciano Spalletti before, with the Italian having managed him at Roma.

At the moment, there is no guarantee that the Bianconeri will attempt to bring the 33-year-old back to Italy, but he is believed to be on their shortlist along with Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario and Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi.

Would Liverpool sanction Alisson’s departure?

It is fair to say that the Brazilian hasn’t had the best of seasons. He has conceded 2.0 goals more than his XG in the Premier League, which ranks him 16th among keepers in the top flight.

Goalkeepers do go through fluctuations in form, and he isn’t at an age where he can be classed as past his best.

Unlike outfield players, keepers generally peak in their 30s, so it could be argued that Alisson has the potential to be the club’s number one for several more years.

Liverpool have signed a possible replacement

The decision to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia last year was perceived as the Reds putting contingency plans in place for the future.

With the Georgian international being eight years younger than Alisson, it looks like he is being lined up as the next first choice.

Whether the handover will happen this summer may depend on Alisson himself. If he wants to stay at Anfield, then the club are very unlikely to push him out the door. Juventus’s interest does, though, raise questions about what might happen at the end of the season.
