While much of the focus was on potentially scouting Endrick, Chelsea’s recruitment team was reportedly forced into an awkward realisation this weekend after former Blue Diego Moreira single-handedly dismantled Lyon.
Chelsea have made their fair share of mistakes over the past ten years when it comes to transfers, with Mohamed Salah and Kevin de Bruyne the two standouts.
Although Jose Mourinho later came out and said De Bruyne and Salah wanted to leave.
The same can’t be said about Diego Moreira, who left Chelsea in the summer of 2024, not long after Enzo Maresca was appointed at Stamford Bridge.
His rise since making the permanent move to Strasbourg has been meteoric, but despite reports, it’s believed that there was no buy-back clause inserted.

Chelsea scouts impressed by Diego Moreira against Lyon
According to a report from Football Transfers, Chelsea had scouts in attendance to watch Strasbourg’s 3-1 win over Lyon recently.
They claim that the Blues would have had scouts keeping an eye on Endrick, who is currently on loan from Real Madrid. However, it was Moreira who stole the show with his Man of the Match award.
The former Chelsea winger scored and grabbed an assist, looking a constant threat out wide and showing his wide array of skills.
What makes it even more impressive was the fact that Lyon were on 13-game winning streak in all competitions prior to the 3-1 win.

Chelsea should take a look at re-signing Diego Moreira
Chelsea should seriously consider re-buying Diego Moreira, following his transformation at Strasbourg. Initially offloaded for just £1.7 million, the 21-year-old has turned into one of Ligue 1’s most explosive wingers.
Beyond correcting a past mistake, Moreira offers the flexibility that Liam Rosenior’s system thrives on. Having evolved from a raw winger into a disciplined player capable of playing as a wing-back or inverted forward, he can provide competition for Marc Cucurella.
With Juventus now circling, Chelsea must act fast to reclaim a homegrown talent who has already proven he can dismantle Europe’s most in-form teams.
