Liverpool have contacted Hungarian winger Roland Sallai, who has been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo.
That’s according to Blikk, who cover the 28-year-old today. The Hungarian outfit gets very excited about Sallai potentially joining Liverpool, which would be huge for Hungary.
Sallai has delivered excellent performances week after week at Galatasaray, even featuring at right-back. His form has attracted interest from several major clubs, but Liverpool could emerge as the ‘real suitor’ among them.
The Turkish press now regularly refer to him as the ‘Hungarian Cristiano Ronaldo’ because of his technical ability and physical presence. Observers track his every move closely, both on and off the pitch.
Sallai also impressed viewers with his display in last week’s 5–2 Champions League win over Juventus. Talk about a big move is certainly growing.
Liverpool earning ‘special attention’
Sport Witness covered a report earlier this month stating that Liverpool, Sunderland and Brentford had already been in contact.
Liverpool are earning ‘special attention’ from Hungary as one of those potential destinations. They’re already home to Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez, Sallai’s teammates at international level.
It would certainly be pleasing for the nation to have a third star at Anfield, and that’s made clear in Hungary. The Reds could do with a reliable right-back after their issues with that position this season.
There’s no mention of a transfer fee or effort at this point. But the Reds’ potential interest in Sallai is not going unnoticed in his homeland.
Why transfer is likely – from player’s father
His father is certainly ready to provide a positive recommendation should those at Liverpool want it.
“I have always been proud of my son, because, and I say this without bias, he is a very good kid,” Tibor Sallai told the newspaper.
“As a father, it is an uplifting feeling to experience this. But my son also does his best to be loved. Whatever position he is put in, he performs well.
“At this level, there is no choice. As a professional footballer, he has to do what the coach says. Even though Roli has special striker qualities, he has to give his maximum as a right-back.
“Roli feels good here, he loves the club, he doesn’t want to leave at all costs, but I think he has one more big move, a really big club, left in his career.
“From here, he can only sign for a team that is truly one of the top teams in the world. Liverpool could be such a destination, and I admit, I wouldn’t have been surprised if this club change happened now, in the winter.
“I know that contact has already been made through a management office.
“I don’t want to shout anything out, but my son will really have a good chance in the summer. If there is an offer that is also beneficial for Galatasaray, to change country and level.
“It would be no ordinary moment if Liverpool took to the Anfield Road pitch with three Hungarians in the starting lineup.”
Dominik Szoboszlai is a huge star in Hungary, with his recent Liverpool free-kick making front pages and seeing him compared to David Beckham.
Adding a third from the country’s national side would be a huge deal for Hungary, and win Liverpool even more fans in the country.
