Report: Chelsea want another Brighton player aside from Baleba and Verbruggen, available for a bargain £39m

Chelsea have raided Brighton consistently over the years for the Seagulls’ best players. This summer looks no different, with Jack Hinshelwood the latest Brighton player linked with Chelsea.

Marc Cucurella, Robert Sanchez, Moises Caicedo and Joao Pedro were all bought from Brighton during the Todd Boehly era. Even manager Graham Potter was snatched by the Blues from the Seagulls.

While Chelsea were quiet in January, Boehly is preparing for his fifth summer transfer window as owner of Chelsea and Brighton players are on the shortlist again. Carlos Baleba is a long-term target for the Blues.

Micah Richards would start him at the World Cup…

More recently, goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen has been linked with a £50m move to Stamford Bridge from The Amex and now, Chelsea are supposedly in the mix to sign another Brighton star; Jack Hinshelwood.

Chelsea see Jack Hinshelwood as a long-term signing

According to a report from Caught Offside, Manchester City and Arsenal are leading the race to sign Brighton’s versatile ace Hinshelwood, who has come through the academy to play 68 times at senior level.

The 20-year-old has been excellent for Brighton, while also winning 11 caps for England’s U21 side. In his 68 appearances, whether that’s at full-back, holding midfield, as a winger or in attack, he’s scored nine.

Five assists, too. Caught Offside say Arsenal and City are leading the race, but Chelsea and Liverpool also want him. Chelsea see Hinshelwood as a long-term investment and rate that he is a homegrown player.

The report states that Chelsea or any other interested parties would have to pay between £39m and £48m to land the English wonderkid this summer. He has a Brighton contract until the end of 2027-28.

What Adam Lallana said Hinshelwood is like off the pitch

All the signs suggest that Hinshelwood is going to have a huge future in the Premier League, and win himself plenty of England caps. But in order to do that, the chances are he will need to join a big club.

His hard-working style of play and attitude, willing to put his head where it hurts attitude and learning from the Premier League’s all-time record appearance make James Milner, sets him in good stead.

Robin Roefs or Robert Sanchez – who would you rather in goal for Chelsea?

Roefs is valued at £50m 💵

Adam Lallana told Brighton’s site: “The maturity he’s shown coming into the team has been remarkable. He’s an example to every young player. Amazing attributes on the pitch but the way he handles himself.

“A credit to himself and his family. He’s got the right balance; versatile but the way he listens, the way he trains and the way he interacts with the senior pros is unbelievable and how he treats his teammates.”

If Chelsea do sign Hinshelwood, they would be getting a player that has huge potential and provides over in numerous roles, all while being homegrown. Is this the right move at this stage? Who knows.
