The Psr status of every Premier League club as Aston Villa point made

All 20 Premier League clubs have successfully adhered to profit and sustainability rules for the 2024/25 season, with Manchester United and Liverpool both compliant despite record spending, though Aston Villa faces separate UEFA sanctions

Every Premier League club has successfully met the league's profit and sustainability requirements for the previous campaign.

Both Everton and Aston Villa sold off their women's teams ahead of last year's June cut-off point in an effort to boost revenue for compliance purposes, a decision that sparked considerable debate.

Top-flight clubs were obliged to file their accounts for the 2024/25 campaign by 31 December. Sides are permitted losses of up to £105 million across a three-year rolling period.

The Premier League's financial department has confirmed that all clubs have met PSR requirements, according to The Times. They appear to have managed this without the frantic transfer activity witnessed in June 2024, when clubs scrambled to meet the previous year's deadline, with numerous eleventh-hour deals being labelled as "PSR transfers".

Some clubs found themselves in a considerably altered situation. Following only the acquisition of Federico Chiesa before lifting the league trophy in 2024/25, Liverpool enjoyed a busy June of new arrivals.

Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pesci and Florian Wirtz all arrived at Anfield as the Reds smashed their transfer record. The Merseyside club had room to manoeuvre following a spell of financial caution, although it remains uncertain how much flexibility they might possess in the market this summer, following the record-breaking £446million outlay, reports the Express.

This suggests last season's spending on players topped £340million despite their struggles in the Premier League. The figure marks the third-highest single-season spending spree in the division's history, helping them bounce back from the previous campaign's disappointments.

United's PSR room for manoeuvre stems from the Premier League's assessment being based on Red Football Limited's financial figures, as opposed to Manchester United PLC. Significant spending unrelated to football activities could be disregarded.

Losses turned out to be substantially lower than first anticipated, with The Athletic revealing that United could post losses exceeding £140m in 2024/25 whilst still meeting PSR requirements. Manchester United's most recent accounts have also shed light on the club's financial well-being, with the standout figure being a £32.6million operating profit in the first half of the year, compared to a £3.9million operating loss the previous year.

Whilst Aston Villa appear poised to meet Premier League requirements, they're facing possible UEFA sanctions. The European governing body holds the power to impose financial penalties.

A hefty fine is expected after the club fell foul of UEFA's squad cost regulation. Financial penalties kick in when a club's spending on player wages, transfers and agents' fees exceeds 70 per cent of its income.

These regulations are due to be adopted by Premier League clubs from next year, with a vote confirming the introduction of the squad cost ratio (SCR) as the new framework for financial governance. SCR will cap the amount clubs can spend on their entire squad based on a percentage of their revenue.

It enables more immediate oversight of clubs' financial positions, rather than assessing them across a three-year timeframe, though concerns persist about how much it might restrict certain clubs. With a decade of PSR drawing to a close, during which numerous teams exploited loopholes, the arrival of SCR could represent the next regulatory shift to reshape the English football landscape.
