Sporting Lisbon are “willing to sell” Man City transfer target Ivan Fresneda this summer, according to reports in the Portuguese media.

Tabloid A BOLA claim that the reigning Liga Portugal champions see the Spaniard’s sale as “good business” and they are unlikely to hold out for his release clause either.

Fresneda’s buyout fee currently stands at €80m (£70m), but there is a willingness to offload him for a figure below that amount.

The 21-year-old has been the subject of enquiries from several teams, although no club has so far firmed up their interest.

The Cityzens’ were first linked with Fresneda back in November. Multiple sources said that Director of Football Hugo Viana is keen on reuniting with the player he signed when he was at Sporting. Buy tickets to watch Man City games here.

However, it is believed that Arsenal and Newcastle are also keeping tabs on Fresneda. The Gunners were actually hoping to buy the defender prior to his move from Real Valladolid to Portugal back in 2023.

Mikel Arteta’s side are weighing up whether to sell Ben White, who has had a series of injury problems over the last 18 months.

Fresneda is not the only right-back on City’s radar

Reports in Brazil earlier this month suggested that the club could step up their pursuit of Wesley. It was reported that they wanted the 22-year-old prior to his move to Roma last year, and it looks like they could reignite their interest.

Tino Livramento is still regarded as the top target but getting Newcastle to sell the England international will be tough.

The Magpies may be looking to recruit Fresneda as well, but that is not thought to be related to Livramento’s future. Kieran Trippier is expected to leave St James’ Park when his contract expires at the end of the season, and they are looking for a replacement.
