CLEVELAND, OHIO (TheOBR.com) - Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans! If it is still morning, which I doubt.
THE DAILY BLOVIATION
Alright. OK.
The Bloviation is late.
But I have a good reason. I think.
Let me start with this. We here at the OBR, or at least the webdork, like to think we're really knowledgeable about the latest trends and technologies that help make our product (The OBR website and ecosystem) better and better. This is despite the advanced age of some individuals: The webdork, specifically. He's getting up there.
Look, I may be in my sixties, but I'm cool with all the new stuff that's happening around me. For instance, I have a color television, not a black-and-white one, as you might have suspected. It doesn't even have a tube or rabbit ears. It's one of those modern flat-screen things. So, I think that says a lot about how I keep up with the times.
Using the technologies available to me, I'm able to do things like keep up with what Andrew Berry is saying about the Cleveland Browns, even though he's in the next state over, in the grand city of Indianapolis. Humans have invented all sorts of stuff that let me do this.
And, boy, have I used computer technology to save me virtually seconds per day. Until recently, I had a very complex, Rube Goldberg-like system to set up the Newswire. I won't even go into it, because it used quantum mechanics and stuff to paste a URL from our forums to this page so I can provide all the information below my wheezing Bloviations.
See, I don't just sit there and copy and paste all the links you find below to our forums and other stuff. Oh, no. That's for geezers. Instead, I have a system that reads all the links from our forums, puts them into a list, then I pick out the things I want from that list, and run a script that puts the links on this page. It's all very complicated and sometimes works.
Then, because I'm so modern, I realized that the latest technological innovation, artificial intelligence, could chop valuable nano-seconds off this process. I could just say something like, "Hey, AI, make me a Newswire template in Google Docs that I can put onto the OBR". And the AI does it, because that's what AI does. It's amazing.
But there's a thing about AI.
It's stupid.
One thing about it - that I can relate to - is that it doesn't have perfect memory. It writes things down in files so that it can try to remember the steps later, but it's not necessarily good at it. So, sometimes I have to tell it how to do something over and over.
To make a long story short, I spent the morning yelling at my AI bot to make it work better so I could save valuable time putting this article together. It's a real time-saver.
So, that's why it's late.
Andrew Berry

IN THE NEWS:
The Cleveland Browns have added veteran defensive coordinator Dom Capers to the staff as an assistant coach. I approve of this, not only because Mike Rutenberg is somewhat young (at least from my vantage point), but because I approve of hiring older guys like me because, as I grow older, I become convinced that older guys are useful and wise. The older I get, the more I'm convinced of this. I discovered that my criteria for who is "old" and who is "young" have shifted as well. Probably for the better, because I'm wiser than I used to be.
Bleacher Report wrote a story this morning. Here it is: - New NFL Draft Rumors Uncover Browns' Willingness to Trade Down from No. 6 Overall Pick. I'm not sure what is so new about it, because Andrew Berry is always willing to talk about trades: up, down, and sideways. But he was asked if he would be amenable to entertaining offers yesterday, and he said "yes", which I found 100% not-shocking. So, yeah, if someone gave the Browns General Manager enough in return, he'd be open to trade down. I'm not sure that this is really a story, but I figure that I should mention it here, since this is a somewhat wobbly recap of the news.
The Browns GM was asked about the status of a number of players, such as Quinshon Judkins, Joel Bitonio, Ethan Pocic, Martin Emerson, and Dawand Jones, yesterday. If I could be so bold as to provide synopses of his answers, they would be as follows: "Better and out of the boot", "Door is open to return", "Maybe", "Unsettled", and "Progressing Well" respectively. I think that's accurate.
As far as the quarterback is concerned, Berry is not concerned about having a #1 QB named before Training Camp; he loves all our guys, and everything is on the table. So, the situation is as it was, until it isn't. These are sorts of things that Andrew Berry says when he's being opportunistic and doesn't know what will happen himself. Things, you see, might happen. Or they might not. I hope that's clear.
Everything is changing in the media world, which is normal. Since I got into this business in the mid-nineties, first as a fan hobbyist and then later a (gulp!) full-time professional webdork, that's been the through-line. Every corner of the sports media world is regularly turned upside down by technological change. One of the hardest hit by change is talk radio, which now finds itself in second place to podcasts as a source of sports information. Meanwhile, podcast businesses have sprung up, and talk radio has had to cling on for dear life. I guess this is good for media businesses covering the NFL, since it makes them much like the sport they cover: "Not for Long". You have to be willing to turn everything upside down regularly. This helps keep me young. And confused. Mostly confused.
Have a good one! GO BROWNS!
