Liverpool FC Legends are set to take on Borussia Dortmund Legends at Anfield on Saturday, March 28 (3pm GMT) in the latest LFC Foundation charity match – a special reunion fixture with the clubs linked by You’ll Never Walk Alone and a shared bond through former Reds boss Jürgen Klopp.
With the Legends squad continuing to take shape, Liverpool have now confirmed a fresh batch of names to bolster the group for what should be another packed, feel-good afternoon on Merseyside.
The club announced eight more players have been added to the Liverpool Legends squad, strengthening every area of the pitch.
Defensively, Ragnar Klavan has been confirmed, while Mark Gonzalez, Igor Biscan and Jay Spearing add extra midfield options. In attack, Ryan Babel, Florent Sinama-Pongolle, Albert Riera and Jermaine Pennant are now also set to feature.
Riera’s inclusion is a notable one, as the Spaniard is currently the boss of Eintracht Frankfurt, while the other seven were involved in the Legends’ 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last October.
Those additions join a list of familiar fan favourites already confirmed, including Steven Gerrard, Thiago Alcantara and Sami Hyypia, plus goalkeepers Jerzy Dudek, Pepe Reina and Sander Westerveld.
Liverpool had also previously announced five further outfield names for the match: Fabio Aurelio, Gregory Vignal, Martin Kelly and Yossi Benayoun (alongside Hyypia, who was part of that update).
On the touchline, Klopp will return to the Anfield dugout as part of the Legends management team, assisting Sir Kenny Dalglish, with Ian Rush and John Aldridge also involved. All proceeds will go towards the work of LFC Foundation and Forever Reds, helping to fund programmes – including employability support – across the community.
