Bears Topic of the Day: Who is the Best 4th-round Pick of Ryan Poles’ career?

In 2022, Poles did not have 4th-round pick to work with; however, he did have an extra 4th-rounder in 2023. Therefore, over his four drafts as general manager, there are still four contenders.

**_#115 Roschon Johnson._** Johnson has delivered 832 yards from scrimmage in his three years on the team, with 36 games (but no starts). He needs at least 300 yards and 15 games in the next two seasons just to be a median-level performer for his draft position, but he has at least played nearly 400 snaps on special teams while earning 8 total touchdowns.

**_#133 Tyler Scott._** In his two years in the NFL, Scott played in more games (28) with more starts (4) than the median 5th-round wide receiver. However, he was a below-median producer despite that in terms of both touchdowns and yards from scrimmage. [He had opportunities](/2023/5/3/23709606/nfl-draft-chicago-bears-favorite-pick-darnell-wright-roschon-johnson-tyler-scott-tyrique-stevenson). He just didn’t take advantage.

**_#122 Tory Taylor._** The Draft Research Project doesn’t record special teamers, but taking a punter in the 4th-round almost requires that the player be a difference maker. Taylor certainly had that [promise](/2024/10/2/24260408/chicago-bears-tory-taylor-punt-week-4-nfc-special-teams-player-of-the-week) coming out of Iowa, but as with so many things on special teams, his performance turned out to be highly contextual. He has never been a reliable upper-half punter in the league.

**_#132 Ruben Hyppolite II._** Hyppolite has had a single start and has played 113 snaps across seven games. He has averaged less than a single tackle per game. He missed two games for injury, but otherwise he simply did not play.

To me, the best pick has to be Johnson. While the running back has been a middling performer, he has put points on the board and has at least been able to answer the call when asked. Scott didn’t have professional snaps after two years and there has been little sign that Taylor or Hyppolite are going to turn the corner soon.

_But now it’s your turn—who do you think has been (or will be) the best 4th-round pick of Poles’ career?_
