Sweden hopeful of Isak return & Wirtz agent wants Madrid – Latest Liverpool FC News

Sweden manager Graham Potter hopes Alexander Isak is back by the end of March and Florian Wirtz‘s agent has been up to no good, talking up a future move to Real Madrid.

Sweden hopeful of Alexander Isak return for internationals

Since Isak fractured his fibula when scoring against Tottenham in December, Liverpool have relied solely upon Hugo Ekitike up front due to Jayden Danns also being injured.

The Reds’ record signing is on his way back now, thankfully, and is estimated to return around the end of March or beginning of April.

Sweden coach Potter’s latest comments line up with those dates, as he hopes his striker will be available for a crucial World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on March 28.

The coach told Sportbladet: “Right now we’re just keeping our fingers crossed and hopefully we can get some of those guys back.

“But if not, we have to find a solution with the guys that are available.”

The winner of Sweden’s game against Ukraine will play Poland or Albania, with the victors going into a World Cup group alongside the Netherlands, Japan and Tunisia.

Mo Salah isn’t the force he was even 12 months ago, but his diminishing performances shouldn’t affect our view of him as one of the greatest Liverpool players of all time, writes Joanna Durkan:

“The loss of Trent Alexander-Arnold and the shift in dynamic at right-back has forced a change to Salah’s game, with more heavy lifting required than in his head coach’s debut season.

“Ultimately, there was a reason Slot sought to name consecutive XIs without his No. 11, and, sadly, Salah has to accept that he is not the player he once was, nor the undroppable focal point.

“His unwavering belief and confidence in himself is what catapulted him to the third spot in Liverpool’s all-time goalscorers list, but it is also what could taint his final few months if he, and we, let it.”

Liverpool FC: On this day

Liverpool have won not one but two League Cups on February 25!

In 2001, at the Millennium Stadium, the Reds beat Birmingham 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, with Jamie Carragher striking the winning penalty before Sander Westerveld produced the decisive save to win the first of three trophies that season!

Thirteen years later, in 2024, Liverpool lifted the trophy at Wembley with a team of youngsters as Jurgen Klopp‘s side rallied to beat Chelsea 1-0 in extra time. The manager later claimed “this was easily the most special trophy” he had won.
