Carr has watched every IU game he can for years, and with his scouting is incredibly knowledgeable about college basketball overall. He's also scouted internationally.
Carr said DeVries will have final decisions on the roster and NIL, and he's very comfortable with that.
"The way that we worked at the Pacers is, we do it together. Darian has the final decision on all of it, and I support that. That's no different than when I worked with Kevin (Pritchard) and Chad (Buchanan) and Larry (Bird)," Carr said. "It's my job to use my expertise to tell them the truth of what I feel.
"Just like the other staff members as they evaluate players and recruit players and we talk about players that will come here, we'll give Darian the best information we can, certainly as we talk about how to balance a roster.
"I think that's another thing over the next couple of years, we'll get this a little more balance with more high school kids developing, which I kind of see as draft picks and the portal as free agency.
"We need to get to the point the roster is more balanced. The last two years, this program has had to rely way too much on the portal. This interview isn't long enough to talk about why and not not t do all that, but one of the main ones, the revenue share money and all that goes way too quickly, just like in free agency.
"You overpay in free agency most of the time, and we will work very hard to get the roster balanced. We can't speed up recruiting classes, so this is probably going to take a couple years to get where we really want it, but then I think we'll see the fruits of all that."
