Packers' Malik Willis gets $30 million contract update before free agency

Malik Willis' price keeps rising.

Free agency hasn't even arrived yet, and the contract cost for the free agent QB from the Green Bay Packers has continued to skyrocket.

The latest report came Wednesday from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, and he writes that "interested teams I’ve spoken to at the Combine in Indianapolis believe him getting at least $30M per year is a foregone conclusion."

When this free agent class was being discussed in early January, Willis was being suggested as someone who could get eight figures per year, but more in the $10-12 million range, not $30 million.

But it seems like each passing report and analysis has the number going up.

Willis isn't in a position to change his own value right now. It's simply about how teams are starting to evaluate what is available to them while also recognizing that there could end up being a bidding war for Willis.

Assuming that Daniel Jones re-signs with the Colts, the only free agent quarterback with a legitimate chance to be a quality starter is Willis.

The Packers won't bring him back to be Jordan Love's QB2 at a big cost like that, so it's up to the teams in need of a quarterback to go after Willis.

He's always been a talented runner with a strong arm, but in two years in Green Bay, he developed into a quality passer with a strong football IQ. He truly looks like some team's answer at quarterback.

And with multiple teams in on him, Willis can let the price rise. He's a highly valued commodity, despite never having been a full-time starter before. Someone is going to pay Willis very handsomely, and he actually might turn out to be quite worth it.
