Jahmyr Gibbs
Brad Holmes gets honest about Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs.
It likely won’t be long before Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs lands a contract that would make him the highest-paid player in NFL history at his position.
The 2025 NFL season was a successful one for Gibbs, who accumulated a total of 1,839 scrimmage yards and 18 touchdowns while also earning Pro Bowl honors; it was his third straight season of having done so. Additionally, his 49 touchdowns in his first three combined seasons happened to be two better than a name that Lions fans are quite familiar with: Barry Sanders.
However, Gibbs did see his stats begin to dwindle a bit in the final third of the season. He averaged averaging 45.3 rushing yards per game, which included 3.1 yards per rush and three rushing touchdowns.
Regardless, Gibbs is one of the focal points of the Lions’ offense, and the expectation is that those numbers should return to normal under the tutelage of new offensive coordinator Drew Petzing.
Lions general manager Brad Holmes has since made it clear that the club would love to have Gibbs around for the long haul.
“The bottom line is this: we want Gibbs here for a long time. He is truly a centerpiece for our offense, of our team. That’s really the main thing,” Holmes told Tom Pelissero on Tuesday. “We’ll have talks with his representation starting this week,” he added. “He earned what he’s going to get.”

Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs Was Disappointed In Not Making The Playoffs
The Lions, who concluded their season last month with a victory over the Chicago Bears and former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, were extremely disappointed that they didn’t qualify for the NFL postseason for what would have been a third straight year.
“Disappointing for sure,” Gibbs said of the Lions’ finish. “We always have hopes to make it to the Super Bowl, and if not that, at least make the playoffs, and we didn’t get either.”
However, the Lions plan on using that disappointment as fuel to channel a better result moving forward.
“I think it could be a good thing. That’s how I look at it as a positive,” Gibbs continued. “You learn from it. Learn as much as we can and fix mistakes going forward.”

Lions Icon Barry Sanders Lauded Gibbs’ Accomplishments
As previously stated, Gibbs broke Sanders record of having reached 47 touchdowns in his first three combined NFL seasons by registering 49.
Needless to say, Sanders expressed his happiness for the current Lions running back following in his footsteps and breaking one of his numerous impressive records.
“I am so happy for Jahmyr, and his teammates. It is really incredible when you think he was able to score so many times with so many other weapons on offense,” Sanders told ESPN. “And he is not done yet, I hope. It is a real testament to his ability to consistently create big plays.
Gibbs also managed to tie Sanders (and Randy Moss) for the most games with a touchdown in an NFL running back’s first three seasons, showcasing his extreme potential for superstardom.
