Bruno Fernandes’ contract is due to expire at the end of next season, so he could leave in the summer.
Man United captain Bruno Fernandes’ future at the club is very uncertain, as the Portugal international’s contract is due to expire at the end of next season, meaning that if United want to sell him for a return, they would look at doing so this summer.
Fernandes almost joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal last summer for £100m. You would think that United would consider it again if it received a similar bid.
Man United keen on Morgan Gibbs-White
If Man United end up selling Fernandes in the summer, they would need to sign a worthy replacement, and fresh reports suggest that they could make a move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, who is also on the radar of Manchester City and Tottenham.
According to the Daily Mail, Man United will target a move for the 26-year-old England international, especially if Forest suffers relegation, as his price, and more importantly, his wages would likely drop, causing a deal to be much cheaper than it would have been if Forest survives.
Gibbs-White almost moved to Tottenham for £60m in the summer last year, but instead he opted to snub the move, as Forest offered him a new and improved contract to persuade him to stay at the City Ground. It is understood that Spurs are still keen, but considering their form this season, you’d think that United would be able to tempt him to Old Trafford instead.
Man City could be an issue, though, as Pep Guardiola is on the hunt for his long-term Bernardo Silva replacement, and Gibbs-White would be a very appropriate addition. This season, the Forest star has scored six goals and provided two assists in 27 Premier League matches.
Man United also considering Iliman Ndiaye
It seems that the Red Devils will look to a proven Premier League star to replace Fernandes eventually, because Gibbs-White isn’t the only name that has been linked with a move to Old Trafford recently.
Ndiaye has impressed under David Moyes this season, scoring five goals and providing two assists in 21 Premier League games for the Toffees. Furthermore, he will be able to link up well with United winger Amad Diallo, as the two have played for Ivory Coast’s international side together on several occasions.
