Robert Livingston is headed down the road to join the Broncos coaching staff, as Denver's new defensive pass game coordinator, as first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Livingston served as Colorado's defensive coordinator and safeties coach the previous two years, helping lead a unit that ranked sixth in the conference in scoring defense for the 2024 Buffs squad that went 9-4.
364 days after Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders gave Livingston his first opportunity to be a defensive coordinator, the former long-time Cincinnati Bengals staff member became the highest paid assistant coach in Colorado football history.
However, with a lack of elite talent, specifically at cornerback and linebacker, Livingston's defense took a step back in Boulder in 2025. The Buffs ranked No. 13 in the 16-member Big 12 Conference in scoring defense last season.
According to Christopher Neely on Thee Pregame Show, new Buffaloes assistant coach Chris Marve is now set to take over as Colorado's defensive coordinator with spring practices set to begin in Boulder this coming week.
The 36-year old Marve was hired as Colorado's new linebackers coach in late December. He most recently served as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Virginia Tech from 2022 through the 2024 regular season. The Hokies ranked No. 13 in the 14-team ACC in scoring defense in 2022, but then improved to seventh in the conference in the category the following season. Virginia Tech then ranked third in the ACC in scoring defense in 2024.
A former linebacker that was a Freshman All-American in 2008, and three-time second-team all-SEC member at Vanderbilt in 2009, 2010 and 2011, Marve's 397 career tackles rank ninth in Commodores history. He was a multi-year captain at Vanderbilt.
Marve was a lower-rated prospect coming out of White Station High School in Memphis, Tenn., despite the fact he was voted Tennessee 5A Mr. Football Lineman of the Year in 2007.
He began his coaching career at his alma mater as a Commodores defensive quality control coach in 2014, then served as a graduate assistant and outside linebackers coach in Nashville in 2015, before getting promoted to be Vanderbilt's inside linebackers coach from 2016-18.
Marve also served as linebackers coach and was the defensive recruiting coordinator at Mississippi State in 2019, then the linebackers coach at Florida State in 2020 and 2021.
He has a wife Lauren, and two daughters, Rhyan and Emory.
