From the NFL Combine: Titans GM Mike Borgonzi Tackles A Bunch of Topics, From Free Agency to…

**INDIANAPOLIS –** Titans General Manager Mike Borgonzi spoke to reporters on Wednesday here at the NFL Combine.

Borgonzi tackled a bunch of topics in a pair of sessions with local, and national, media.

Here's a look at some of the highlights:

\-Borgonzi was asked about guard Peter Skoronski's contract situation on two separate occasions.

Both times, Borgonzi indicated he'd like to keep Skoronski, a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, long-term when asked about a potential fifth-year option.

"We always try to secure our best players early," Borgonzi said. "And that is obviously a tool, an option we can use. But our goal is to get something done with Peter."

"With Peter, he is one of our better players," Borgonzi said later, "and we'd like him here long-term. The fifth-year option is always a tool, a mechanism, you can use. But we are going to work to try and get something done with Peter."

\-Borgonzi gave a quick health update on quarterback Cam Ward, who is recovering from a right shoulder injury.

"I would just say he's trending well, he's tracking well, for the offseason," Borgonzi said of Ward.

\-Borgonzi said there have been "ongoing conversations" with some of the team's players scheduled to become free agents. Tight end Chig Okonkwo's name was brought up during a question about the team's pending free agents.

"I want to keep those internal right now," Borgonzi said. "But we have been in conversations with some of those guys."

\-Borgonzi gave his quick impressions of the three edge rushers being talked about most from this class – Ohio State's Arvell Reese, Miami's Rueben Bain, and Texas Tech's David Bailey.

"They are all a little bit of a different flavor – all really good players," Borgonzi said. "Bain is more of your power guy, who can kick down inside. Reese is obviously versatile, has done a lot of different things, has played off the ball. He has played as a pass rusher, he has length, he has explosion. And then Bailey had a ton of production this year off the edge. He has length, he has speed coming off the edge. So, all three of those guys are really good players."

\-Borgonzi was asked about Bain's assessment that he "killed" his formal interview with the Titans.

"He did really well, yeah. It was a great interaction," said Borgonzi, who also noted Texas Tech's David Bailey and Ohio State's Arvell Reese also impressed the team in interviews. "All those guys, really, it was impressive. (They) are smart football players, too. ... All three of those guys impressed."

\-Borgonzi said his conversations have been "great" with cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, but he didn't reveal much about his future.

"He is currently still going through the rehab and getting healthy," Borgonzi said. "I just talked with him yesterday, and (conversations) have been really good. … He has continued to work and get himself healthy."

\-Asked about receiver Calvin Ridley, Borgonzi said, "he's been great. We texted a couple of weeks ago."

\-Borgonzi said he talked to Ward about Bain, his former Miami teammate, last week.

"I think you get your best information sometimes from players," Borgonzi said. "And we use that."

\-Asked about the strength of the free agency class, Borgonzi replied: "There are a group of edge guys in free agency, there's some corners, there's a good group of receivers. I do think overall it is a good free agency class overall."

\-On the strength of this year's draft class, Borgonzi said: "I think the receiver group is a good group. I think it's a good edge rush group. I do think there is some value at the top and in middle rounds with the corner group as well. It's a good linebacker group, too."

\-Borgonzi said he talked to quarterback Will Levis last week.

"He has done a great job," Borgonzi said of Levis. "I just talked to Will the other day, he is working out at the facility, training. I was running on the treadmill, there was a group of guys working out the other day, and he was in there. He's been great. He looks healthy and he's ready to go for the offseason."

Borgonzi also noted the importance of having a veteran quarterback.

"That room, for Cam, is crucial," Borgonzi said. "And my experience, getting a veteran quarterback is almost like another coach. Obviously they need to play if they have to, but certainly someone with knowledge, they'd almost be like another coach for him in the room."
