Knicks linked to make a run at LeBron James for the 2026-27 season

Throughout the year, speculation has stirred regarding the future of Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James.

The four-time NBA MVP and NBA Champion is now 41-years-old, but has still been posting solid numbers in his 23rd NBA season.

In 39 games, James has posted 21.7 points per game, seven assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.1 steals.

That said, there's still questions regarding his future with the Lakers or speculation about his retirement.

While many NBA insiders have suggested that James will sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers if he intends to play beyond this season, there are two other teams that may try and make a run at signing the 22-time All-Star.

According to NBA insider Eric Pincus, the Golden State Warriors and the New York Knicks are situations that are thought to appeal to James.

Although James has been linked to playing with Stephen Curry before, there's reason to believe the Warriors don't have enough pieces in place to make it out of the difficult Western Conference, even if they add James.

That leaves the New York Knicks. At the moment, New York is tied with Cleveland for third place in the Eastern Conference standings.

However, there's much more star power on the Knicks' roster. If James were to sign a minimum contract with New York, he'd join the likes of Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges, not to mention key rotation players like Josh Hart and OG Aunnonoby.

With the possibility of joining a stacked roster next season, the Knicks should begin to be seen as more of a threat to land James in free agency.
