Sam Green, the New Orleans Pelicans fan who went viral in November for going toe-to-toe with Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, returned to the Smoothie King Center on Tuesday night as the Warriors came back to town.
In November, Draymond Green missed five consecutive shots at the rim and grabbed his own rebound after four misses.
Sam Green, who sat courtside behind a basket, began calling Draymond Green “Angel Reese,” referencing the LSU legend and WNBA All-Star who has gone viral for missing layups and grabbing her own offensive rebounds in the past.
After Sam Green continued to call Draymond “Angel Reese”, the Warriors forward approached him, and the two stood face-to-face along the baseline before being separated by arena security and Green’s teammates.
“He just kept calling me a woman,” Green said back in November. “You know, it was a good joke at first, but you can’t just keep calling me a woman. I’ve got four kids with one on the way. You can’t keep calling me a woman.”
On Tuesday night, Sam Green wore a black Chicago Sky No. 5 Reese jersey as a friend sat beside him a purple LSU No. 10 Reese jersey. Sam Green told The Times-Picayune his jersey was signed and given to him as a Christmas present after his viral moment in November.
“I’ve always been a fan,” Sam Green said. “I mean, me and my wife went to LSU. She’s a Tiger, Geaux Tigers. I’ve always been an Angel Reese fan. I never put two and two together until, you know, we saw Draymond put up three offensive rebounds and three missed shots in 14 seconds, so after that, it all came together.”
Sam Green said Draymond Green’s personal security approached him before the game and told him to watch his behavior because the security guard got in trouble with the NBA for not responding quick enough to the last interaction.
Sam Green said Draymond Green hadn’t made eye contact with him as of the midway point of the fourth quarter.
“Oh, I didn’t see.” Green told The Times-Picayune, when asked about Sam Green’s attire as he stood behind the Warriors’ bench all night. “I didn’t see. Naw.”
