The Premier League champions are expected to prioritise defensive reinforcements this summer transfer window as they continue reshaping the squad.

With Ibrahima Konate’s contract expiring and England defender Joe Gomez potentially departing, signing a senior centre-back is viewed as essential.

One name on their radar is Micky van de Ven. The Tottenham Hotspur defender, signed from VfL Wolfsburg in 2023, is attracting interest amid Spurs’ difficult season.

Liverpool have long admired the Dutchman after tracking him during his time in Germany and see him as a strong candidate to bolster their back line.

Manchester United are also monitoring his situation, with Champions League football likely to influence his decision should he seek a move. However, Romano has stated there is currently “nothing concrete” between Manchester United and Van de Ven despite the speculation.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “On Micky van de Ven and Manchester United, I received many questions but guys, I’m not aware about anything really serious or concrete at this stage. Appreciating Micky van de Ven is absolutely normal.

“He’s one of the best defenders around and so it’s absolutely normal to have this kind of stories on many clubs but at the moment, I think as I keep telling you and I told you here on the channel for some time, the focus for Man United and the big spending is going to be on midfielders.

“Man United want to invest in midfielders. Then Man United to sign a defender? I think it’s a possibility in the summer. Let’s see what happens with Harry Maguire if he’s going to stay, if he’s going to leave. But at the moment, for Micky van de Ven and United, there is nothing really serious or concrete.”
