The Detroit Lions got news on Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders during their time at the NFL Combine week.
The Detroit Lions have one of the top edge rushers in the league with Michigan product Aidan Hutchinson, but the team would have benefited from more edge help during the 2026-27 season.
Of course, the dream candidate is always Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders, who’s a Michigan native and has the guts and toughness that would be a great fit for the Lions. Crosby has said on multiple occasions that he’s not moving, but never say never in the NFL.
Now, with the Raiders hurting following a 3-14 record for their season, would Crosby finally be open to a trade? Also, would Las Vegas be willing to give him up for the right package?
Lions Get Maxx Crosby News Amid NFL Combine Events
On Tuesday, February 24, Las Vegas Raiders general manager John Spytek was asked about the status of Crosby with the Raiders. He was pretty clear in his answer.
When flat-out asked if he seems Crosby with the Raiders in 2026, he said, according to ESPN, “I do.” He added, “Maxx is an elite player, and I’ve been very upfront from the start when I got here that we’re in the business of having really good players on the team, and we need a lot more of them.”
Spytek also said he has a great relationship with Crosby. But, in general, Spytek said he’s always willing to listen to offers to trade any player, noting, “I learned a long time ago, always listen. I’m always listening.”
So, this update really shuts down hope for the Detroit Lions to get Crosby to the team. But, the Lions do need to add some help for Hutchinson.
A New Offensive Approach for the Detroit Lions in the 2026-27 Season
The Detroit Lions hired Drew Petzing on January 26, 2026, and head coach Dan Campbell is standing by his choice. Petzing came from the Arizona Cardinals, which had a 3-14 record for the 2025-26 season, so that’s not a good look. At all. But, Campbell is still sold on him.
In an interview with Tim Twentyman of the official Lions website shared on Tuesday, February 24, Campbell talks about the decision to hire Petzing. He says that he knew right away Petzing was the person for the job, and he totally stands by his decision to hire Petzing over the more high-profile candidates.
“I’ve always liked Drew from afar,” Campbell said in the interview. “Through the years, what he was able to do offensively, I always liked it. There was creativity to it. We’re going to be versatile. He gives us that ability to make the most of what we have.”
Campbell also said that he knew Petzing “was going to be his guy within the first 20 minutes of the interview. That’s quite the endorsement. Campbell also called Petzing “a creative guy” and said that he “can make things happen. ‘Tell me what I got and I’ll figure this out.’ I love that.”
So, the Detroit Lions have a new look in 2026. But, it appears they’ll have that look without Crosby on the roster.
