Edmunds, 27, appeared in 13 games for Chicago in 2025, recording 112 tackles, 9 pass breakups, 1 sack, and 1 fumble recovery. Despite the strong individual production, the Chicago Bears are willing to move him as they reshape the roster and manage the salary cap heading into free agency.

Chicago Bears Grant LB Tremaine Edmunds Permission to Seek Trade: Two-Time Pro Bowler Could Be on the Move This Offseason
Because Edmunds is entering the final year of his contract, the Bears could simply release him if no trade materializes—creating a significant hole at inside linebacker. Rapoport notes that Chicago is open to offers, potentially targeting a Day 2 pick or a veteran in return.
One speculated landing spot is the New Orleans Saints, where former Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen (now Saints head coach) coached Edmunds from 2018–2024 during his Buffalo Bills tenure. Reuniting the two could be appealing if the Saints seek linebacker help.
The Chicago Bears’ willingness to move Edmunds signals a broader roster reset after a disappointing 2025 season. With cap constraints and multiple needs, trading a high-salary veteran like Edmunds could provide flexibility to address other positions in free agency or the draft.
