Man City have been linked to one of Liverpool’s key targets coming into the summer transfer window.

Manchester City remain fully committed to catching up to rivals Arsenal in the Premier League title race, as they currently sit five points behind the Gunners after beating Newcastle United 2-1 over the weekend, their third consecutive Premier League win.

Their next game comes against Leeds United, and with a win, they could go to within two points of Arsenal, putting some pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side. Whether City win the league or not this year, most would admit that this isn’t the best team that Pep Guardiola has had at the Etihad.

If Man City want to keep hold of Guardiola, they will need to back him in the transfer market. Recent reports have emerged which suggest they could jump ahead of Real Madrid and Liverpool for a £52m Serie A star.

Man City keen on Juventus star Cambiaso

The left-back position has been a bit turbulent at City this season, with Rayan Ait-Nouri struggling to consistently perform, and Guardiola forced to play Nico O’Reilly out of position from midfield to full-back.

It is understood that the Cityzens want to strengthen at full-back heading into the summer, and that they could make a move for Juventus star Andrea Cambiaso. According to Caught Offside, Man City, Liverpool and Real Madrid all have their eyes on the Italian defender in the summer, and could find themselves in a battle for him.

The report says that the 26-year-old would be expected to cost at least £52m, but with such high-profile interest, that price could only drive up. This season, Cambiaso has made 35 appearances for Juventus, scoring two goals and providing four assists. He can play on either side of defence, and also as a left-midfielder, which is the sort of versatility that would attract Guardiola to the 26-year-old.

Man City also eyeing Arsenal target full-back

Man City’s desire to sign a full-back hasn’t just led them to wanting to sign Cambiaso, as they have also been linked to Sporting CP right-back Ivan Fresneda, who has emerged as a target for rivals Arsenal too, amid recent exit rumours surrounding Ben White.

Man City are interested in the 21-year-old and have been scouting him over the past few months. The report says that Arsenal are the front-runners to sign the Spanish defender

He has a market value of just £10m, but based on the fact that there is interest in him from across Europe, Sporting could demand much more for him, but even so, that could make him a real bargain. Fresneda has made 31 appearances for Sporting so far this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists. He is an attack-minded full-back, much like Walker, and has a burst of pace to match, too.
