Liverpool boosted their top-four hopes with a dramatic late win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Alexis Mac Allister scored in the seventh minute of stoppage time, moving the Reds level on points with Chelsea in the race for Champions League qualification.
Arne Slot’s side will look to continue their Premier League progress when they host relegation-threatened West Ham United on Saturday. Since early December, Liverpool have lost only twice, just once at Anfield, and currently sit sixth, aiming to push into the top four.
West Ham have shown resilience under Nuno Espírito Santo, losing only once in their last eight games and narrowing the gap to 17th place. Despite their recent form, a win at Anfield will be a tough task.
Liverpool will be without Alexander Isak, who suffered a serious leg injury in December, while Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni, and Wataru Endo are also sidelined.
Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz are doubts, with Arne Slot expected to provide updates later this week. For West Ham, Freddie Potts is suspended, and Pablo Felipe and Lukasz Fabianski are out injured.
Elsewhere, Liverpool and Chelsea legends will take part in the Masters Football tournament at OVO Arena, Wembley, on May 31, according to the Mirror. Former stars including Loic Remy (Chelsea), Jermaine Pennant (Liverpool), Ivan Campo (Real Madrid), and Jari Litmanen (Ajax) are expected to feature.
Each six-a-side match will last 14 minutes with rolling substitutions in a round-robin format, leading to a final between the top two teams. Previous winners of the competition include Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Nottingham Forest, and Leicester.
The last team to lift the trophy was Scottish side Rangers, who defeated Leeds 8-3 in the 2011 final. Tickets go on presale Thursday, February 26 at 10am, with general sale starting 24 hours later.
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has previously told the event’s official website why the tournament is so popular among former players. He said: “The lads always have a great time with the Masters. The fans always come out in numbers and the matches are as intense as ever! You only need to see the quality of the teams nowadays to see how keen the players are to get involved.”
