Panthers rumor involving former Pro Bowl quarterback could lead to trade with Chiefs, Jets or Raiders

The Carolina Panthers could be preparing to move on from quarterback Andy Dalton.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Panthers are receiving calls on Dalton. The veteran signal-caller has been in Carolina for the last three seasons, serving as Bryce Young's backup.

"Another available QB: Carolina has been getting calls about Andy Dalton for a potential trade, per sources," Schefter said.

Dalton potentially being available for trade should catch the eye of the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, and Las Vegas Raiders.

Kansas City must acquire a veteran signal-caller this offseason who can start games at the beginning of the year if Patrick Mahomes can't return from knee surgery in time for Week 1. Dalton has a ton of starting experience and could be a viable starter for the Chiefs until Mahomes is ready to go.

New York will be the starting quarterback market, but the team could also look to acquire Dalton to serve as the backup and mentor to a young quarterback, if the Jets choose that route. New York offensive coordinator Frank Reich also coached Dalton in Carolina in 2023, so there's a connection there.

Las Vegas will likely select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick, but bringing in Dalton to be a mentor to Mendoza would be a fantastic move by general manager John Spytek.

Overall, Dalton will be cheap to acquire in the trade market and can still be a high-level backup, so it's no surprise that teams are calling the Panthers regarding the three-time Pro Bowler. Kansas City, New York, and Las Vegas would be ideal fits for Dalton as he embarks on the final stage of his NFL career.
