INDIANAPOLIS (WRDW/WAGT) -North Augusta native Drew Stevens took a major step in the pre-draft process this week, sitting down with all 32 NFL teams at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
The Iowa specialist was one of just three placekickers invited to this year’s combine. After completing medical evaluations and team interviews Monday and Tuesday, Stevens had the opportunity to showcase his leg during on-field workouts.
He connected on 12 of 14 field goal attempts and made his lone extra point try. Stevens was charted from the hashes at distances of 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 55 yards.
Later in the session, he attempted a 65-yard field goal. The kick had the distance but drifted just left of the upright.
Stevens, Iowa’s program record holder in multiple kicking categories, told News 12 he felt good about his showcase, and is embracing every step of the pre-draft process.
Several draft projections rank the former Hawkeye among the top specialists in this year’s class. Some mock drafts list Stevens as the No. 1 placekicker available, while Mel Kiper Jr. currently ranks him No. 4 at the position.
At Iowa, Stevens built his résumé on both distance and accuracy. He set school records for career field goals made, most field goals made from 50-plus yards, and longest field goal at 58 yards.
