Chelsea are among the teams who have shown a “concrete interest” in Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Writing in his newsletter column for GiveMeSport, Jacobs confirmed that the Blues are keen on recruiting the 23-year-old but it could cost an arm and a leg to secure his services:

“Chelsea and Liverpool are two of several Premier League clubs who hold a concrete interest in Morgan Rogers. And prior to Rogers’ contract extension, the feeling was around July or August last summer that Rogers actually might be available for around £80m.”

“Now, Villa will be looking at his form and they will be well within their rights, based upon that, to be looking at well in excess of £100m, and maybe even in British transfer record territory.”

What is the current British transfer record?

Liverpool broke the record when they paid £125m for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak last year. Chelsea had held the previous record, following their deals for both Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo in 2023. Buy an Enzo Fernandez shirt from the official Chelsea store here.

Whether Rogers is worth more than £125m, it is up for debate, and it would be a surprise if Liam Rosenior’s team were willing to pay that much in order to snap up the player.

How has the Chelsea target been performing this season?

As Jacobs mentions, Rogers has been in pretty good form, scoring 10 goals and providing 7 assists in 38 appearances, but he is not playing quite as well as he did last campaign.

The England international ended the 2024/25 season with 14 goals and 16 assists in total, averaging a goal contribution every 1.8 matches. His average for 2025/26 is 1 in 2.24.

For Rogers’ age and the position that he plays, many will feel he has the potential to become even better in the future, and that is why Chelsea are weighing up a move this summer.
