'Not a big, big fan': John Terry gives his honest verdict on'ruthless'former Chelsea manager

John Terry has admitted that while he isn’t a ‘big, big fan’ of every aspect of former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, he is a massive admirer of the German’s ‘ruthless’ efficiency and proven ability to win.

Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea tenure was a whirlwind. Arriving in January 2021, he transformed a struggling side into Champions of Europe within just five months, and then followed this by securing the UEFA Super Cup and the club’s first FIFA Club World Cup.

Renowned for his ruthless tactical discipline and wing-back system, he reached six finals in total. However, after navigating the club through a turbulent ownership change in 2022, Tuchel was dismissed in September following disagreements with the new hierarchy, leaving as a Chelsea hero.

And club legend John Terry, who followed his story at Chelsea, has given his verdict on Tuchel as he looks to repeat his success with England.

If you could use just ONE word, how would you describe Liam Delap at Chelsea?

John Terry thinks Thomas Tuchel is the key for England

Speaking on the Double Tops podcast, John Terry gives England a chance under Thomas Tuchel after watching him during his time at Chelsea.

“I think we have a chance. I’m not sure weather is going to be on our side. That sounds really bizarre to say, but I just think South American team.

“I think with Harry Kane as our main man, it’s probably our last chance with him. I hope we do. I really hope.

“I think the big thing, the manager is the big thing. Yeah, he’s ruthless. I’ve seen him at Chelsea.

Rosenior is the perfect manager for Palmer, isn’t he? 🤔

He was then asked, ‘You’re a big fan of him?’

Terry replied.

“Not a big, big fan of his, but he knows how to win. That’s what I like about him.”

Which Chelsea players will get an England call-up?

Cole Palmer remains the most certain inclusion, despite recent fitness struggles and a dip in Premier League output. His impact in Euro 2024 and his ability to unlock defences make him key.

Joining him as a virtual shoo-in is captain Reece James, who has leadership and technical quality on the right. Provided his carefully managed minutes keep him available for the summer heat of North America.

Levi Colwill will likely miss out on a role with this season potentially coming too soon for a return. While Trevoh Chalobah has recently forced his way into the conversation as a versatile depth option, it remains to be seen as to whether Tuchel will turn to him.

Even Jamie Carragher has tipped Chalobah as a wildcard pick.
