'He will depart': One Liverpool player leaving this summer is now a 'certainty' - journalist

Liverpool’s Andy Robertson looks set for an Anfield exit this summer.

The Scot has been part of the furniture at the club for nearly a decade, but with his contract expiring at the end of the season, his storied Liverpool career looks to be drawing to a close.

Robertson was close to a move to Spurs in January, but Arne Slot would have been vehemently against it given the dearth of options in defence.

Once the season concludes, however, so will the left-back’s time on Merseyside according to David Lynch.

David Lynch says Andy Robertson has no future at Liverpool

Lynch has sources at the club that give him an idea of where FSG stand on contracts, transfers and the like.

From what he has heard, Robertson is not being considered for a new deal.

He appeared on The Anfield Index podcast to discuss all the transfer news circulating around Liverpool at the moment.

On Robertson, he said: ““I mean, Robertson for me, that’s a certainty that he will go now. I mean, the idea that he entertained the Tottenham interest and was willing to go in January. You know, there’s no chance of a new contract now and he will depart.

“So, you know, he’s a big loss in terms of setting the standards.”

That’s a fairly concrete stance, and his point about leadership certainly rings true. Robertson is a key senior figure in the dressing room, and his departure would be a blow to the side in that department.

But he wants to be playing regular football, and that just doesn’t look likely at Liverpool anymore.

Robertson’s final mission at Liverpool

If he is to leave, Robertson will do so as an all-time great.

Before he departs, he can etch his name into the history books once again by moving up the list of Liverpool’s top Premier League assisters.

His 56 assists is two shy of Steve McManaman in fourth place.

Whether Robertson gets the opportunity between now and May remains to be seen, but it’s something for him to aim for to end his time at Anfield on a high.
