Patriots WR DeMario Douglas Sends Clear Message of Patriots’ Future Amid Contract Silence

The New England Patriots reportedly have some key extensions on the horizon. However, there’s one player who may not be getting the amount of attention his situation deserves.

Drake Maye will be eligible for extension at the end of the next season while Christian Gonzalez is already on extension. However, the Patriots’ roster includes a young, talented receiver who doesn’t want to leave yet. DeMario Douglas is entering the final year of his rookie deal, but apparently wants to remain in New England. Here’s what he thinks about his Patriots’ future.

Speaking with Boston Globe Sports’ journalistChristopher Price on Tuesday, Douglas revealed he’s yet to have any contract extension talks with the management. However, he clearly added his desire to remain with the Patriots after his rookie contract expires.

Douglas, who has been at New England for three years, says New England “feels like home” while expressing his affection for the coaching crew, teammates, and other staff members. Also, Douglas added that the team is likely focused on sealing a deal with Gonzalez first.

Considering his numbers since joining the Patriots, there’s no denying that Douglas is a critical part of New England’s project. The wide receiver has registered 1,629 receiving yards and six touchdowns since the start of the 2023 season. Despite not being a primary starter, Douglas has been proven a valuable receiver who fills a specific role for the offense.

In the 2025 season, Douglas caught 31 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns. He also had the second-most yards after catch of any receiver on the team, despite not starting a game.

Douglas has more than proven he deserves to be paid.”

Douglas may not be a superstar yet, but he is a player worth keeping around with an undeniable reputation of being a real threat whenever he’s with the ball. To top it all, despite having a rough Super Bowl outing, Douglas was second on the team in receiving yards, establishing his leadership potential in the role. While there’s ongoing silence concerning his New England Patriots, his on-field statistics give off a loud thud that resonates through the ranks of wide receivers in the NFL.
