Malo Gusto says one Chelsea defender would actually make a good striker

Malo Gusto has made a surprising claim regarding Trevoh Chalobah’s versatility, suggesting the defender possesses the instincts required to moonlight as a striker for Chelsea.

This season for Malo Gusto has been a bit of a rollercoaster. He has suffered three different setbacks at Chelsea, including a viral issue, a knock against Barcelona, and pain issues in January.

Despite that, on his day, Gusto is Chelsea’s first choice right-back, and Liam Rosenior even turned to him at left-back in Marc Cucurella’s absence instead of Jorrel Hato against Burnley.

However, Rosenior wasn’t too happy with Gusto during the Burnley draw, citing his lack of calmness when he hooked the ball out of play at Stamford Bridge.

And speaking after the weekend’s clash, Gusto has shared all on his teammates, including Trevoh Chalobah.

Malo Gusto picks Trevoh Chalobah as the Chelsea defender who could play as a striker

In an interview with Chelsea, Gusto was asked which defender would be the best striker.

His response was brilliant.

“Me, of course, now I have scored twice! But if it’s not me, I would say Trev would be a good striker.”

Trevoh Chalobah’s most iconic long-range strike remains his stunning debut goal against Crystal Palace from around 25 yards out.

And 2025–26 data shows he has already registered three shots on target from outside the box.

If you could use just ONE word, how would you describe Liam Delap at Chelsea?

Chelsea’s striker issues at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea’s current striker dilemma is defined by a lack of efficiency and a reliance on hybrid forwards rather than traditional number nines. While Joao Pedro has been a revelation with 11 Premier League goals, he often drops deep to link play, leaving the box vacant during crucial transitions.

This void has been highlighted by the struggles of Liam Delap, who has managed just one league goal in 18 appearances since his £30 million move from Ipswich. Delap recording only 10 shots on target from an xG of 3.63 suggests a player struggling with both confidence and the jump in quality.

With Marc Guiu still developing, Chelsea lacks the physical nuisance factor to punish low blocks.
