**Former Chelsea captain John Terry says he is expecting West Ham to “stay up” this season.**
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are currently 18th in the Premier League table, two points from safety, but Terry thinks three other clubs will be relegated:
“I think West Ham will stay up, I do, yeah. Genuinely, I think West Ham will stay up. Wolves, Burnley and Forest are in trouble, I think.”
Terry doesn’t mention Tottenham, who are also [**involved in the relegation dogfight**](https://hammersheadlines.com/west-ham-news-tim-sherwood-tottenham-relegation-prediction/), but it appears he believes they will be safe as well.
The statisticians still think West Ham will go down
---------------------------------------------------
Despite an ex-captain of a fierce rival backing them to avoid the drop, the Hammers are very much favourites to go down, along with Wolves and Burnley at the moment.
Opta run thousands of simulations to predict the results of all 20 Premier League clubs for the last 11 fixtures, and they say that Nuno’s men have a 71.28% chance of dropping into the Championship.
The chances of Forest being relegated are just 22.98%, while Spurs are given a 4.59% probability.
Recent results should give the Irons heart
------------------------------------------
Not many gave West Ham any hope of avoiding relegation at the beginning of January, but they have lost just one of their last eight Premier League games, and momentum is very much with them.
Both Nottingham Forest and Tottenham have struggled in comparison recently, so many (like Terry) believe they can now get out of the bottom three.
Of course, there is still plenty of work to do, starting with this weekend’s trip to Liverpool, but if they play with the same energy and quality we have seen from them over the last six weeks, they have it in them to move away from danger.
