While there remains some massive issues with the football development structures in this country, there are some very talented young players coming through the Ireland youth ranks at the moment.
The exploits of the U17 team during their recent World Cup campaign was a prime example of that in action, with some high potential footballers part of that group. There are quite a few other promising prospects in the other age groups, with Trent Kone-Doherty chief amongst them.
The 19-year old Derry native has already made the step up to the Ireland U21 squad, having impressed in the Liverpool youth ranks since his move from Derry City. He made his first team debut for the club last season and is well thought of at Anfield.
However, it now seems as though the player is edging towards a move away from Merseyside.

First team opportunities have been difficult to come by for the winger at Liverpool, although it was expected he would remain at the club and perhaps go out on loan for the next season or two.
He clearly feels that a permanent move elsewhere would be best for his development. In saying that, a move to Norway is not what would be expected.
Molde do have a fantastic reputation, bringing through some quality players in recent times. Erling Haaland is the most obvious example.

Due to the Norwegian league being played on a summer schedule, their transfer window remains open until April 3rd. As a result, any deal for Trent Kone-Doherty could take place immediately as opposed to having to wait until the summer.
The player made his Ireland U21 debut in 2025, earning four caps in total at that level.
