No transfer request handed to Chelsea – Story killed by player’s camp

A rumour, started on social media, that Marc Guiu had submitted a formal transfer request at Chelsea, somehow made it too the Spanish press.

However, Spanish newspaper Sport has now pushed back strongly on that narrative, despite them falling for it in the first place.

According to Sport, sources close to the player insist there has been no such move. Guiu is described as happy in London and has not asked to leave Stamford Bridge.

Despite frustration over limited minutes, his camp has “categorically denied” that any transfer request has been filed.

The 19-year-old striker joined Chelsea from Barcelona in the summer of 2024 for €6m (£5.1m). He signed a long-term contract until 2029. The expectation was gradual integration into the first-team picture. Instead, squad congestion has complicated that plan.

It is also worth recalling that we reported last week how Barcelona are still not over losing Guiu. The striker’s exit prompted internal reflection at the Camp Nou.

As a result, the Blaugrana implemented a new system of clauses designed to prevent unexpected departures of La Masia talents in the future. The Guiu case effectively triggered structural changes in how Barcelona now protect their rising stars.

Struggling for rhythm under Rosenior

Under head coach Liam Rosenior, opportunities have dried up. Guiu has not played in the last 10 matches. His most recent appearance came on 14 January against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup, where he completed 53 minutes.

In total, he has featured 11 times this season. He has accumulated 447 minutes, averaging just over 40 per match. He has scored twice and provided two assists. Those numbers show flashes of impact, but not sustained involvement.

A summer loan to Sunderland was supposed to change that. Yet the move collapsed early. After only three appearances, Chelsea recalled him. An injury to Liam Delap and attacking reshuffles, including Nico Jackson’s switch to Munich, forced the club to prioritise internal depth.

Summer could define next step

Although Guiu is not pushing for an exit now, Sport adds that he may review his situation when the summer window opens. That would depend on clarity over his role and realistic chances of playing time next season.

For now, Chelsea have not received any formal request. The player remains committed. However, if minutes do not increase, the conversation may look very different in a few months.
