Liverpool’s academy pathway has rarely been more congested, with even Rio Ngumoha struggling for regular minutes in an admittedly complicated season for Arne Slot’s men.
England youth defender Liam Balmer has already confirmed he will be leaving Liverpool to try and forge his own way, with Leeds United believed to be his next destination.
And it seems another young talent at Kirkby as a big decision to make on his future.
Highly-rated Liverpool starlet Trent Kone-Doherty is reportedly close to a move to Norwegian outfit Molde FK, although the deal is not done yet.
The Irish winger has been a standout for the club’s youth sides since arriving from Derry City in 2022, racking up goals and assists for the U18s and U21s while also representing the Republic of Ireland’s u21 side.
His pace, direct dribbling and willingness to run at defenders have long marked him out as one to watch, and he even earned a senior debut in the FA Cup defeat at Plymouth last season after impressing coaches at Kirkby.
Now reliable academy reporter Lewis Bower has asserted that although the teenager has been offered a new deal at Liverpool, he has a chance to join the first team setup at Molde:
“Trent Kone-Doherty has been offered a new deal at Liverpool however he has the opportunity to go to Molde FK to be part of the first-team on a permanent deal. As things stand a move is close.”
Kone-Doherty has been spotted with the first team here and there this season, but first-team football will hold great allure to the 19-year-old.
It definitely seems like one to watch as the winger will be a big loss should a deal materialise.
