Liverpool winger Trent Kone-Doherty is attracting strong interest from Molde FK ahead of a possible transfer to Norway as his contract nears its expiry.

Trent Kone-Doherty to Molde: What we know so far

Transfer interest: 19-year-old winger Trent Kone-Doherty is a target for Molde. The Norwegian window stays open until April 1, allowing for an immediate move.

Contract status: Although Liverpool offered a new deal, the player is exploring an exit as his contract expires this June. A decision is expected within 24 hours.

First-team path: Despite a record-breaking stint in the UEFA Youth League, Kone-Doherty has fallen behind Rio Ngumoha and Kieran Morrison.

Kone-Doherty is into his fourth season with Liverpool but, despite making his first-team debut a year ago, he is now expected to depart.

This Is Anfield understands the 19-year-old is subject of strong interest from clubs including Molde FK, who play in the Norwegian Eliteserien.

Liverpool have offered Kone-Doherty a new contract but, with his terms expiring at the end of June, the left winger is exploring the possibility of a mid-season exit.

Though the transfer window is closed for clubs in the Premier League, it remains open in Norway until April 1 and that has provided an opportunity for the young Irishman.

As it stands a deal for Kone-Doherty is not guaranteed and he has continued to train with the U21s at the AXA Training Centre this week.

But clarity on the situation is expected within the next 24 hours as Liverpool prepare to sanction an early departure for a player they had hoped to retain beyond 2026.

Kone-Doherty is an explosive, direct winger at his best on the left flank who has become a key player for the U21s since his £150,000 move from Derry City in 2022, including five assists in the league so far this season.

Earlier this month he made a record-breaking appearance for the U19s, becoming the Liverpool player with the most appearances in UEFA Youth League history.

However that only highlights the distance he has found himself from the first team, with team-mates Rio Ngumoha, 17, and Kieran Morrison, 19, favoured by Arne Slot.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international has featured once for the senior side this season, coming off the bench in the 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in October.

But even then he was only a late replacement for Ngumoha, who had started the game, and his situation has led him to consider a surprise switch to Norway.
